Preparation
Preparation for a LAN party is probably one of the most important things. The first thing to do is to find out what games are going to be played at the LAN. It is very important to have most if not all of the game preinstalled before the LAN. If you get there and you have to go through an hour of installing all the games that are going to be played it may lessen your experience.
Another good thing to do, which is usually required is to install anti-virus software as well as have had your computer fully scanned. Nobody wants HIV from your computer if its infected.
Meeting others
A good way to make friends at LAN parties is simply to talk to other people! This usually occurs after a sequence of long rounds or a very long game match. Depending on the size of the event, many members may get up, stretch, and talk to the others whom participated in their game. Just remember, it is not always welcome to use real names at a LAN party and people often use alises. It's not weird to hear people call each other names such as "Cricket", "DragonSlayer", or even "DeathStriker666". This is normal LAN party culture.
